Lewis developed this disease after serving the US Navy for several years between 1958 and 1964 as airman and mess cook at Monterey in San Diego. My husband died in 2016 after suffering from respiratory problems caused by asbestos for two years. He was in the Army National Guard as a Scout Leader and served in Alabama between 1965 and 1972. In January 2014, he went to Dr. Hinton and Dr. Tucker at DCH Medical Center and he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Mary remembers how his dad used to repair his car at home, changing the brakes and oil. This was another potential source of exposure because the brakes and many other car parts contained asbestos. Unfortunately, Mary's father didn't live enough to get to benefit from his compensation, but his family is the beneficiary of the award we managed to obtain.

Ken was born in 1941 and died in March 2016, after fighting a harsh battle with one of the most aggressive cancer forms: mesothelioma.

He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in January 2015 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Osseo, Wisconsin. Ken developed this disease after serving the military for years. He was in service for several years between 1959 and 1964, at Fort Richardson in Alaska and Fort Gordon in Georgia. Also, after being discharged, he worked for 30 years as a machinist at a company called Inductoheat based in Madison Heights, Michigan, which could have exposed him further more to the toxic fibers.

Unfortunately, Ken passed away before he could find out that the court approved his asbestos claim, but at least his family is now able to benefit from the award Ken deserved.

Many US veterans exposed themselves to massive quantities of asbestos back in the 60’s and 70’s. J.R. died in March 2014 due to lung lancer. His first symptoms were shortness of breath and fatigue which he noticed in April 2012 and was later diagnosed with cancer of the right lung in September 2013. Subsequently, he was also diagnosed with asbestosis and pleural disease.

Sarah’s case was very special. We were taken aback and deeply moved to meet such a young person suffering from an asbestos disease. She was born in 1995 and she was only 19 years old when she was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

This type of contamination occurs when the person is not in direct contact with asbestos particles. He worked as a construction worker between 1957-1960 in Raymond, MS. Between 1960 and 1965 he was a laborer, then he moved to Jackson and worked as a heavy equipment operator until 1970. Some of the companies he worked for are the Frierson Building Supplies, the Sheppard Lumber Company and Harbert Constructions based in Birmingham. In the 70's he started his own business with his brother in Canton, MS; their activity implied tearing down old houses. He continued working in the demolition field until 2001.

After so many years of work surrounded by asbestos, Bill started feeling the first signs of illness. In 2013, when he went to the doctor, he discovered that he was suffering from lung cancer. After he fought for 3 years with the illness, he was diagnosed with asbestosis in 2016. Although she didn't have first-hand contact with the toxic mineral, she still inhaled asbestos fibers when her husband came home from work wearing the clothes he had been using that day while he was on duty. By touching these clothes or washing them, or simply by hugging her husband, the risk of exposure was equal because asbestos fibers are extremely thin and easily inhaled.

Today, Lena is no longer among us, but her family has managed to obtain the financial compensation she deserved after so many years of struggling with the disease.

Helen's father was not aware of the fact that he was exposed to asbestos before the first signs of the disease started to show. Judith reached out to us when she found out the tragic news of her mother's asbestosis diagnosis. James was born in 1938 and died last year in July due to mesothelioma. He was diagnosed with this asbestos-related condition in October 2016 by Dr. Woodski, a pulmonologist from Beaver, Pennsylvania.  James had several symptoms that finally helped the doctors establish his final diagnosis. His medical history shows that he had previously been diagnosed with pneumonia, pleural effusion and collapsed lung. After we started working on James’ case, we discovered multiple potential sources of asbestos exposure. His work history and his daughter’s testimony pointed out that James firstly suffered from secondary exposure due to his father’s job who worked in landscaping and constructions. He probably carried home asbestos dust on his clothes after working all day with materials that contained this mineral. In his adulthood, James also had a high-risk job; he was a heavy equipment operator from 1977 to 1987. He worked at the Sherman’s Trucking company in different locations in Pennsylvania: Beaver Falls, Koppel, Ambridge. His position most probably exposed him to additional quantities of asbestos. This mineral was highly efficient as an insulator and it was contained in multiple machines used in different industries back in the 70’s.

Jane lost her father two years ago, but we could still help her recover the compensation that James would have received for his illness.

Mrs. Jo R. is a client of ours whom we met last year when she decided to pursue a claim for asbestos exposure. After we got some basic information about her background, we decided to start working on what seemed to be a secondary exposure case.

Jo was diagnosed with mesothelioma last year in June, at the Peterson Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, Texas.

Both of Jo’s parents had been working in Duluth, Minnesota in an environment that was most likely contaminated with asbestos. Her father worked at Independent Cleaners and her mother at Clyde Iron Works.

They fixed their house roofing, siding and porch ceiling which required replacing because the previous structure contained asbestos. She remembers that these works were carried on between 1996 and 2010. The asbestos contained within the walls of the buildings built prior to the 70’s are extremely dangerous. Not many people are aware that they are exposing themselves to major health risks if they renovate their house without wearing the proper equipment. Once the fibers are released, they are easily inhaled because they are invisible and, unfortunately, any amount of asbestos can cause permanent lung damage. After we’ve filed Jo’s claim, we were happy to receive the good news in just a couple of months. Her case was considered valid and she is now entitled to compensation.

Isabella is one of the clients we will never forget. She was born in Poland in 1949 and moved to the US in 1976. She lived in New York together with her friend who was a cutting machine operator. Isabella came to us when she decided that she wants to file a claim for asbestos exposure. She was diagnosed with mesothelioma in Poland, in July 2015, and she was certain that she could recover a compensation for her illness. Staying for long hours in a building that contained these toxic fibers posed major health risks because asbestos particles are easily inhaled, and the outcome is irreversible. Despite her severe condition, Isabella is grateful because her claim was deemed valid by the court and she now benefits from compensation.

Joe is one of the numerous people who reached out to us after receiving the shocking news that he suffered from mesothelioma. After years of exposure, Joe started to feel symptoms such as lightheadedness at the beginning of June 2016. He was hospitalized at the Summa Akron City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Doctors initially thought that he was suffering from a stroke or a heart attack. His disease was ascertained on 6^th June 2016; he was actually suffering from mesothelioma. Although there is no connection between mesothelioma and tobacco, it is worth mentioning that Joe hadn’t been smoking since he was in his 30’s. He gave up cigarettes 40 years ago and he never used to smoke more than a pack per week.

After we took Joe’s case we started looking into his work history and, with his help, we managed to establish a connection between his jobs and his diagnosis. Joe had been working for several years in different environments where he had most likely been exposed to asbestos. He worked in maintenance in 1962 in Cuyahoga Falls. Between 1963 and 1964 he worked for the same city as a recreation department worker. From 1965 to 1075 he worked for the Road crew and the Asphalt crew, and between 1968 and 1970, he was a delivery man for the Lawson Milk Company. From 1970, Joe started working in Akron, at first, as a teacher at the Akron Board of Education between 1970 and 1982 and then as a night auditor at the Midtown Motor Inn, between 1983 and 1984. Some of Joe’s high-risk roles were in maintenance and in the road and asphalt crew because asbestos was commonly used in the construction materials sold in the 60’s and 70’s.

After we filed Joe’s claim, it only took several months before he got a response. His case was successful and, even if money can’t bring back his health, he is at least able to keep up with his medical bills by using the compensation he was granted.

We met Mr. Tim C. in October 2015. He came to us for legal support after he found out that he was suffering from an asbestos-related disease. A month earlier, he had been diagnosed with mesothelioma. During his lifetime, Tim has been exposed to asbestos on several occasions due to the work activities he performed. Between 1965 and 1977, he had 2 jobs that are nowadays linked to high asbestos exposure risks: mechanic and construction worker. He worked as a mechanic in Alabama prior to 1965 and between 1973 and 1974 when he was employed by the Station company in Wisconsin. Being a mechanic back in those days meant frequent contact with asbestos fibers because this toxic mineral was used in many car parts such as brakes, gaskets, clutches, or engine components. As a construction worker, Tim was exposed to equal dangers because asbestos was commonly present in the materials used to construct buildings too. He was a construction worker between 1965 and 1971, at the Whitefish Bay High School and Home Remodeling, both based in Wisconsin.

As soon as Tim started to tell us more about his career, we knew he had high chances of recovering a compensation for his physical damages. The work and medical history documents we obtained, confirmed his exposure and allowed us to help him recover the award he deserved.

In August 2014, Mr. Phil S. came to our office from Arlington, Virginia in the hope of receiving legal assistance with the case of his wife, Jane, who developed mesothelioma as a result of workplace asbestos exposure. From 1967 to 1976, she had been a sheetrock finisher, working for multiple companies in states such as Florida, Alabama, and Maryland. As a resident of Arkansas, Rex was exposed to carcinogenic asbestos fibers while working in construction for various companies in the state, including Pilgrim Construction, Franklin M. Patterson, and Gerber Products Co. He had been a construction worker and laborer for the vast majority of his life, from 1968 to 2013. Regrettably, due to prolonged occupational exposure to asbestos, Rex was diagnosed with epithelioid mesothelioma at the end of December 2013, which claimed his life two years later.

In June 2014, a family member of his contacted us with the purpose of recovering financial compensation for his sufferings. On June 5, 2014, Mary F. of Porter, Texas was diagnosed with mesothelioma. Her disease was solely the consequence of secondary asbestos exposure, which occurred via contact with her husband, Tom, as well as by staying in close proximity to home construction projects. As a mechanic, Tom would often inadvertently carry home toxic asbestos fibers on his clothes, which she subsequently inhaled or ingested, either by laundering or by greeting him upon returning home from the job. From 1973 to 1976, Tom worked for Ryder Truck Rental as a diesel mechanic. There were two occasions on which Mary was exposed to asbestos through home construction – in 1971 in Houston, Texas and between 1975 and 1976, in Porter, Texas. Although tobacco smoking has been proven to have no influence on mesothelioma, it is perhaps worthy of note that Mary had never been a smoker.

Tom contacted Environmental Litigation Group, P.C. in July 2014 and our legal experts soon began delving into his case. We collected the necessary information, gathered additional evidence, prepared the required documentation for the submission of his asbestos claim, as well as contacted a former co-worker of Mary's husband, Tom. While the employer was not found liable per se, the manufacturers of the asbestos products they were using at the time were held accountable for negligence and Tom eventually recovered financial compensation on behalf of his wife.
