Research on the hazards of cement and concrete dust reveals that crushed concrete contains the following agents:

Crystalline silica
Silicon
Aluminum
Cadmium
Chromium

Inhalation and ingestion of these elements can deeply penetrate the lungs and cause scarring and inflammation. On top of that, the International Agency for Research on Cancer lists crystalline silica as a carcinogen and is linked to the development of lung cancer.

Inhaling silica dust from pulverized concrete can also increase the risk of developing silicosis, kidney disease, and even other types of cancer (bladder and kidney cancer).
