9/11 toxins: pulverized concrete
On September 11, 2001, the crumbling of the Twin Towers dispersed pulverized concrete into the air. The giant cloud of crushed concrete carried toxic materials like silica, heavy metals, and other hazardous substances, which posed serious health threats to those nearby. First responders and residents had no choice but to ingest and inhale the fumes, dust, and debris during and after the 9/11 attacks.
For those exposed, the health effects did not immediately manifest as illnesses. However, the presence of toxic particles in pulverized concrete had lasting consequences years after the terrorist attack. Pulverized concrete has been associated with severe respiratory diseases, chronic conditions, and various forms of cancer. These diseases are now part of the horrendous legacy of 9/11.
