Gastroesophageal reflux disease - 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund claims
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation. While occasional heartburn is common, GERD is a more serious condition characterized by mild symptoms at least twice a week or moderate to severe symptoms at least once a week. A study has shown that 9/11 responders face a higher risk of developing GERD. In fact, it's the third most common condition certified by the World Trade Center Health Program. If you were present at the Exposure Zone during or after the attacks and have since been diagnosed with GERD, you may be eligible for compensation.
