Exposed to asbestos at their workplace

Ice cream plant workers image

Surprisingly, people who worked in ice cream plants before 1980 were moderately exposed to asbestos, as the equipment they would operate contained the toxic mineral. One of the most notorious ice cream manufacturers which employed asbestos during the last century is Sealtest Ice Cream, which was founded in 1935 by the National Dairy Products Corporation, a precursor of Kraft Foods, Inc. At the moment, Unilever holds the rights to Sealtest Ice Cream. The ice cream plant in Buffalo, New York exposed workers to asbestos to a considerable extent, which is why numerous former employees took legal action against it.

Claim Evaluation

Another ice cream plant that exposed workers to asbestos is Wilson Ice Cream, located in Benton Harbor, Michigan. By handling equipment insulated with asbestos, employees would release microscopic carcinogenic fibers in the air, which they would subsequently inhale and ingest. There is solid evidence that the Wilson Ice Cream plant used significant amounts of asbestos, such as blueprints and invoices from asbestos product manufacturers. It is important to know that, if you were exposed to asbestos while working at one of these ice cream plants before 1980, you are at high risk of developing a serious disease such as lung cancer or mesothelioma, which will occur within 20 to 50 years from your first asbestos exposure. For this reason, we strongly encourage people who held down a job at one of these ice cream plants to undergo periodical medical examination, as they may have unknowingly developed a disease.
