Gold Bond

When lighter and stronger wallboard was developed by National Gypsum, the company offered a ‘gold bond’ certificate to anyone that bought the product. The wallboard became quickly known as Gold Bond. The product line sold under this name expanded and Gold Bond became a division of National Gypsum Company. A wide range of asbestos-containing products was manufactured and sold under the Gold Bond name from 1950 until 1970. These construction materials were endangering the lives of the workers that installed or removed them.

Gold Bond employees exposed to asbestos

Initially referring to the brand name of wallboard manufactured by National Gypsum, Gold Bond eventually became a division of the company, expanding to include other building materials as well, such as siding, joint compounds, and texture paint. By virtue of the excellent fire resistance and insulating properties it has, asbestos was a common ingredient in construction products during the last century and National Gypsum was just one of the numerous U.S. manufacturers which employed it. Accordingly, Gold Bond building materials would also contain asbestos, which was no secret to workers or consumers.

However, since company executives went to incredible lengths to hide the disastrous health consequences of asbestos exposure, people were completely unaware of the carcinogenic nature of this mineral. The occupations at the highest risk of developing a serious disease as a result of the asbestos exposure either from working at Gold Bond or with their products are:

Considering the fact that asbestos-related diseases may take a long time to develop, it's extremely important that anyone who has a history of asbestos exposure regularly monitor their health. In the interest of promoting the importance of early diagnosis, we are offering screenings free of charge for Gold Bond employees.

Lung Cancer Mesothelioma Throat Cancer Esophageal Cancer Bronchial Cancer Gastrointestinal Cancer Colorectal Cancer

If, however, you struggle with non-cancerous pleural diseases such as asbestosis, pulmonary fibrosis, pleural plaques, pleural effusion, diffuse pleural thickening, COPD (emphysema & chronic bronchitis), pleurisy, lung nodules, lung spots, asthma, pneumonitis, tuberculosis, rounded atelectasis or lung scarring, please seek a second or even a third opinion as the rate of misdiagnosis is very high among the victims of asbestos exposure.

Secondary asbestos exposure, a serious concern for the family members of Gold Bond workers

Secondary asbestos exposure, which occurs when a person inhales or ingests toxic fibers without being in direct contact with the source of contamination, was bound to happen in the families of Gold Bond workers between 1950 and 1970, as the company would not require employees to change their clothes at the end of the day. Thus, individuals who were manufacturing the building materials of National Gypsum would unwittingly bring asbestos dust in their homes, which family members could later come to breathe in or swallow. Approximately 10% of people who suffer from asbestos-related diseases were secondarily exposed to it, usually due to having someone in their family who worked directly with the mineral.

Just as people who came in contact with the carcinogen on the job, victims of secondary asbestos exposure are eligible for compensation. Gold Bond set up a trust fund in 2003, after filing for bankruptcy protection for the second time, which provides money both to former employees and family members injured by asbestos. With the help of a lawyer specialized in asbestos cases, you can easily recover the compensation you deserve from the company. At the moment, the asbestos trust fund of Gold Bond has over $300 million for future claimants. Our lawyers have been handling cases of asbestos exposure since 1990 and will gladly assist you with obtaining fair compensation for your physical and emotional distress.
