A short history of Enterra Corp., AFFF manufacturing, and lawsuits
As a manufacturer and distributor of fire extinguishing products, National Foam was incorporated in Delaware in 1927. It operated as an independent company until 1969. The AFFF manufacturer had its main place of business in West Chester, Pennsylvania. From 1969 to 2013, the business was acquired by various companies and underwent several name changes. It was operated under various names, including:
- National Foam System, Inc.
- National Foam System, Inc. Division of Enterra
- Chubb National Foam, Inc.
- Kidde Fire Fighting, Inc.
- Kidde-Fenwal, Inc.
- National Foam Business
On May 28, 1981, PSC split into two separate companies, specifically PSC and Enterra Corporation. The latter was a corporation organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. From 1981 to 1987, the National Foam Business operated as an unincorporated division of Enterra.
Furthermore, between May 28, 1981, and April 30, 1987, Enterra purchased various liability insurance policies, such as those issued by KFI's insurers covering liabilities arising out of the design, manufacture, sale, and distribution of AFFF by the National Foam System, Inc. Division (the "Enterra Policies").
Sadly, cancer has become one of the leading causes of death among firefighters, and toxic exposure might play a major role in this grim statistic. For this reason, civilian and military firefighters who used AFFF on the job and now suffer from health issues are encouraged to seek legal assistance, as they might qualify for compensation from manufacturers.
