Founded in 1818, Chubb Fire specializes in fire protection and security systems, having been manufacturing AFFF for decades in the U.S. The company is a subsidiary of APi Group, which is headquartered in New Brighton, Minnesota. Some of the PFAS-containing fire suppressants Chubb Fire manufactures are Tridol C6 AFFF, Tridol C6 ATF AR-AFFF, Tridol C6 Ultra 1-3, and Tridol C6 ATF 3-3 and 3-6. Claim Evaluation

A short history of Chubb Fire, AFFF manufacturing, and lawsuits

In the winter of 2024, a lawsuit was filed against 27 companies manufacturing or selling materials contaminated with PFAS by New Hanover Count, including Chubb Fire. "Certain defendants have used the environment surrounding the Fayetteville Works facility as a dumping ground for hundreds of chemicals while assuring the Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies that they were doing no such thing," states the lawsuit. While a lot of the contamination stemmed from factories, the lawsuit states that a significant amount also came from using AFFF, which was "common practice" among local fire departments.

On April 15, 2024, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, alleged she was exposed to toxic, PFAS-containing drinking water, which resulted in her developing kidney cancer. She underwent invasive medical treatment, including the removal of a kidney. Chubb Fire is one of the AFFF manufacturers the plaintiff sued. The lawsuit claimed toxic exposure caused the woman the following and continues to pose a risk of her coming to struggle with further health complications:

Multiple civilian and military firefighters have filed lawsuits against Chubb Fire over the years, including Gilbert Gonzalez in 2020. As a Texas firefighter, he has been using AFFF and, due to the toxicity of the PFAS the firefighting foam contains, developed skin cancer. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina on October 5, 2020, indicating the man was directly exposed to the fire suppressant during training exercises and while extinguishing actual fires.
